21st Annual Celebration
Pearl S. Buck Birthplace & Surrounding Area
History and Theme of the
Little Levels Heritage Fair
An old photo of the Pocahontas County Horse Show held in Hillsboro in 1915 sparked the idea to recreate a fair to celebrate the heritage of the Little Levels area. The last full weekend in June was chosen to coincide with the June 26, 1892 birth of Pearl S. Buck.

The Pearl S. Buck Birthplace property has become the new fair ground. The fair showcases local talent and products and serves as a fundraiser for volunteer and civic organizations of the area. Our goal is to preserve as much of the history and heritage as possible through written stories and photos of the area.

Our 2015 theme is "Honoring Our Past" "Sharing Our Stories". We work closely with Preserving Pocahontas, Genealogy Group, PC Historical Society and the Pearl S. Buck Birthplace along with area residents. We will have a story telling hour from 1 2 pm on Saturday, June 27. Please register & tell your interesting story of the area history.

There will be a Reconnection Reunion at the Pleasant Green Church on Seebert Road. The church and the Seebert Lane School were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. A most inspiring homecoming was held in the church that had not been in use for several years. A fundraising drive is in progress to restore the foundation, windows etc. and bring this beautiful building back to life for future generations. Many former members and descendants are planning to make the trip to Hillsboro to participate in the ceremony.

Many local residents are descendants of the original settlers. Many of the old homes are no longer standing, however, the home place remains in the heart and soul of those who have been a part of the community. It is our sincere hope that the Little Levels will always be "a place to come home to".
